Since CoolSculpting hit the US market in 2010, it has quickly become a popular option for reducing stubborn fat and beating the bulge. Freezing away unwanted fat with CoolSculpting is now the treatment of choice for people interested in non-surgical fat removal. But is CoolSculpting painful.

What is Coolsculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction treatment that uses state-of-the-art cooling technology known as cryolipolysis, to remove unwanted fat. It targets fat bulges that defy diet and exercise, and is therefore effective for areas such as the abdomen, upper arms, inner and outer thighs, and flanks.

What happens during CoolSculpting?

The CoolSculpting applicator is placed on the treatment area and the cold temperatures selectively targets the fat cells, without affecting surrounding tissue. The infusion of cold causes the fat cells to crystallize and die, and over the following weeks, the dead cells are gradually expelled from the body via the lymphatic system.

Is CoolSculpting painful?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that does not involve surgery, so it is not painful. However, patients may experience some discomfort at the start of the procedure as the treatment area cools. Once the targeted area is numbed there is very little discomfort. Patients may feel some pulling, tingling, or tugging sensations during CoolSculpting, but the treatment is generally comfortable. Many patients pass the time working on their laptop or simply relaxing (click here to learn more).

Is there any downtime?

There is typically little to no downtime after CoolSculpting treatment, but patients may feel some tenderness and numbness at the treatment site for a few days.
