Do you have some fat bulges that you would like to reshape with liposuction? Contouring some parts of the body is not easy, so it’s not surprising that liposuction is such a sought after treatment. Liposuction is the ideal way to get rid of stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise.
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a fat reduction procedure that has traditionally been performed with the help of a hollow instrument known as a cannula. The cannula is introduced below the skin through tiny incisions, and used to break up excess fatty deposits. The device is attached to a vacuum machine that suctions the unwanted fat from the body. The abdomen, flanks, and thighs are some of the most common target areas for liposuction (learn more).
How invasive is liposuction
Traditional liposuction can be a minimally invasive procedure, but it depends on the number of areas being treated, and the volume of fat targeted. During liposuction the surrounding tissues often undergo a lot of trauma, as the cannula is moved back and forth to dislodge the fat cells. There is also significant swelling and bruising post-procedure, which can take up to 2 weeks to resolve.
Thanks to advances in technology, there are now less invasive liposuction procedures that use laser energy to melt unwanted fat. Since laser-assisted lipo uses laser energy to liquefy fat, there is much less trauma to the surrounding tissue. Recovery is therefore faster, and risks are fewer.
