What is body contouring?

Would you like to get rid of your muffin top or sculpt your thighs?  If so, you may be a good candidate for body contouring.  But what exactly is body contouring, and what are the options available.

What is body contouring?

Body contouring is the process of reshaping the body by removing excess fat.  Body contouring is often undertaken after massive weight loss, but can also be done to remove stubborn pockets of fat.  The aim of body contouring is to improve the tone and definition of the body. Body contouring may be done using surgical or non-surgical methods.

Body contouring options

Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most common body contouring options available. Tumescent liposuction is a safe, effective procedure in which a solution containing local anesthetic is introduced into the treatment area, causing the fatty deposits to swell and become firmer.  Tiny incisions are then made in the area, through which a small thin tube known as a cannula is inserted.  The cannula is moved back and forth to break up the fatty tissue, which is sucked out using the attached vacuum (click here to learn more).

SlimLipo

SlimLipo is a laser-assisted lipo technique in which laser technology is used to improve effectiveness.  The laser and the device that suctions the liquefied fat are inserted into the treatment area, through tiny incisions. The laser energy melts the fat and tightens the skin.  The fat is then removed using the suctioning device.  SlimLipo is less invasive than traditional liposuction, and there are fewer side-effects.
